Lack of Knowledge
It surprises me how many negative reviews I read about Blu Ray players in general that have nothing to do with the player, but has everything to do with the person's lack of knowledge about electronics. While researching for a Blu Ray player for my parents, I came across a guy who gave a player a negative review because the player's box didn't tell him that the cable modem that he was using wasn't capable of supporting two Ethernet connected devices and that he would need a router for the player and his home computer to be hooked to the internet at the same time. It is not the Blu Ray manufactures job to inform the customer of basic facts. That would be like getting mad a car dealership for not telling a customer that the automobile needs gasoline to work correctly. The next one that drives me crazy is when people complain about firmware updates. Wake up people. Your player is a dumbed down computer that is made especially for videos and will need updates from time to time...

Works as advertised
I bought this machine about a week ago. Was concerned about the reviews that critized the Netflix streaming but comforted by the person or two that said the firmware updates would cause it to work. Anyhow, no problems. I followed the set up instrucitons on the screen and it has been working fine. Pic is great. Streaming is too. Have viewed several movies--streaming and DVDs-- and everything seems to be as it should be. I am receiving my internet from Comcast using a Netgear N 150 router (a recent addition from them). And by the way, if the firmware was updated during installation, I wasn't aware. All I did was follow the instructions as they came along ----entered my password from Comcast ---and the one from Netflix. I have never written a review before (it probably shows) but felt I should cause a lot of the BlueRays have been receiving some bad press. Almost went for a PS3 even though I am not a gamer...but that would have been a waste of another 100 or so. Only...

Better than expected
I haven't much to add to the recent decent reviews for this product. I'll give you my $0.02 and let you decide whether or not it helps.I bought this after the death of my beloved LG BD390 whose ability to recognize any and all disc both puzzled and frustrated me. What I loved about that player was its ability to play almost anything I burned to disc and the added convenience of Netflix streaming. What I didn't like, even when it was working, was main menu structure and the lack of sorting/searching for the Netflix app.So flash forward to March of this year when I lost the ability to play any discs and was left with a device that could only stream Netflix (although a bad interface) and computer content (which was the spotty dnla) and I'm ready to research the purchase of something that will hopefully last longer and be more of what I want in an all around player. With the expansion of online content I was hoping to find a player that was...

Does the Job
PROS/CONS1) The BD-D5500 has a loading tray, which encourages proper handling of the disks by the edges. (Many more expensive players are "slot loading")2) Despite the complaint of one reviewer, it is the standard width (17"), exactly the same as my old DVD player and my receiver.3) The controls are illuminated, and so, easy to operate even in a dark room, but the controls are identified only by symbols4) The controls are touch (not buttons)---sometimes a quick tap is good enough, sometimes it is not. I prefer the tactile feedback of buttons.5) If you "pause" a movie (and do not remove it from the player), you can go back to it and resume play at the same location hours, maybe days, later. However, if you "stop" play, eject the disk, or turn off the player, it forgets where you stopped---Caveat, when attached to a Samsung TV, if you turn off the TV, that automatically turns off the player.PROBLEMSThis is the first generation of 3D TVs,...

Honest Review After Three Days Of Use
I just received this player from Amazon three days ago. There are certain features of this product that exceed my expectation.1.The Blu-ray disk reading is very fast. This is compared to the Panasonic DMP-DB60 Blu-ray that I had previously. This one is almost 10 times faster than the Panasonic DMP-DB60. I am very pleased by its fast reading capability.2.You can connect a mass storage device to this machine to the USB port. I initially thought the USB ports were for small storage devices such a flash drive or thumb drive, like many earlier version Blu-ray/DVD players. But after I tried to plug a 500GB external hard drive into it, all the multi-media files on the drive were quickly recognized by the player. The reading was fast. I was pleasantly surprised by that.3.Besides its high quality video output, the audio output is also very powerful. I connect this player to my "Logitech Z-5500 THX-Certified 5.1 Digital Surround Sound Speaker System", which is the best PC...

3D Technology Checklist

This product is 3D-related. To help you get a great 3D experience, use the checklist below to ensure you have everything you need. 3D viewing requires:

A Display
First, you'll need a 3D-ready display--whether it's a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays have more processing power than standard 2D models for displaying 3D images in rapid succession.
A Source
Your display may be ready for 3D playback, but you'll still need a device to read 3D content. This can be a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu-ray Disc player, or a PlayStation 3 system.
3D Content
3D content--the actual entertainment, in other words--will be played back using the source mentioned above, whether it's a 3D broadcast from your cable provider, a 3D Blu-ray Disc, or a 3D video game.
3D Glasses
For now, the vast majority of 3D HDTVs require glasses for 3D viewing. Many use powered "active shutter" glasses, others polarized "passive" glasses. You'll need one pair per viewer, and they'll have to be compatible with your display, whether they're the same brand, or a pair of "universal" glasses designed to work across brands.
HDMI Cable
To connect your source (such as a 3D Blu-ray Disc player) to your display, you'll need a high-speed HDMI cable. Cables with this designation feature bandwidth speeds up to 10.2 Gbps (gigabits per second), for carrying the 3D signal without any loss of quality.

great mid-range internet blu ray player
I bought this after returning a sony google tv blu ray player. After opening the box, I had the basic set up finished within about 5 minutes. The set-up of the blu ray player took a little bit longer because I had to create new accounts for samsung smart tv, not a big deal just takes some time to finish. Once set-up, I loved it!PROS:1. GREAT content offered: Hulu plus, netflix, blockbuster, vudu, MLB network, local event listings, tv listings, and much more!2. Easy to navigate user interface. Lots of graphic content, large print, items are grouped in a logical order so you can find them easily.3. Good basic search feature4. Picture quality on netflix and hulu plus is excellent5. Price...compared to the sony google-tv, which has less content and a higher price, I was VERY happy with this price tag.6. Sleek design, front-loading dvd player without a tray. Also, it is lightweight and does not take up much space in my entertainment...

Excellent Blu-ray playback, and so, so Smart TV.....
I needed to replace an aging Panasonic DMP-BD35K, which had decided to become selective as to which BD's it would play( typically newer titles wouldn't load, I'm not sure if it's a question of a lack in newer firmware, of which Panasonic hasn't released an update in about two years, or if it just isn't working any longer.).I had researched extensively on the purchase of the Panasonic reading many reviews from several websites, but on this purchase I just decided to take a chance with Samsung. I do own a Samsung television which I really like and the reviews of Samsung's 2010 Blu-ray player were also good. Nearly as good as the 'King of the hill' Oppo( according to cnet video test scores. ). I was also aware of the many negative reviews of the 2010 BD-C6500 and I also noticed that they were mostly in regards to the web enabled apps, and not in regards to video playback. I have an Apple TV which I use for Netflix streaming( it does an excellent job of that, 720p only, but no biggy...

Great Picture and Colors, Features Fine When They Work
I been using the Samsung BD-D6500 unit for a month now and found the picture and color rendition to be great. 3D viewing through my Samsung 3D ready HDTV and optional 3D glasses works well. The wired and wireless connection work but I found myself resetting the unit's network interface on occasion in order to get the unit to function. I strongly recommend using the wired connection for speed and reliability. The standard remote control works fine but the "EXIT", "RETURN", "INFO i" and "TOOLS" buttons are crammed too tightly around the navigation buttons causing inadvertent button depressions. Also, I would have preferred if the "EXIT" and "RETURN" buttons where interchanged. The "Smart Hub" Internet applications are fine when they work. I have found that the "Netflix" application interface is limited compared to the "Netflix" PC interface. If you plan to use the "Smart Hub" applications extensively you may want to consider purchasing the optional "QWERTY" remote control. The...

Excellent Feature-Set for the Price
I have had the Samsung BD-C5500 Blu-ray player for about a week now and I absolutely love it. It was very easy to setup and worked perfectly right out of the box. It's smaller in size than the DVD player it is replacing but noticeably heavier. It starts up quickly and loads Blu-ray discs quickly too. The buttons on the front of the player are touch sensitive and don't give the user any tactile feedback so sometimes it's hard to tell if you have pushed them or not but at the same time they are cool and have a cutting-edge appeal. Some people have mentioned that they don't care for the remote but I find it to be very adequate and easy to use. I like the larger size of the buttons since I have big hands. The remote seems to work well at different angles and distances as well. When I first hooked up the player it did a firmware update and about a week later it notified me that there was a newer firmware and again did an update. It's comforting to see that Samsung is actively working to...

Excellent entry level Blu-Ray player
This is my first stand alone Blu-Ray player purchase. I also have a Playstation 3. Setup on the Samsung was fast and easy. Blu-Ray discs load up fast. I didn't notice any difference in load speeds between this player and the Playstation 3. The quality of upconverting regular DVD's to 1080p was decent. To access the internet features, I'm using an ethernet cable connected to an Actiontec Powerline Adapter. So far, I have streamed HD Netflix movies and checked out a few videos on Youtube. Both worked flawlessly. As another reviewer mentioned a bug regarding sound, I haven't had that issue at all.As of now, there aren't many internet apps available. That's not a big issue to me since the only ones I will use are Netlfix and Youtube. One issue I did have was using the AccuWeather App. Every time I went into the setup area to input my current location, the app would freeze (New York City weather is the default location). I tried this at least 5 plus times and the freezing issue...

Has a Bug
Update:Samsung responded well to my issues with this product. It looks like Samsung reads these reviews, a Samsung customer service rep contacted me to request I mail my C5500 so they could look at it and offered to send me a replacement. I haven't had anymore issues with the C5500 and it seems to improve by the day with additional apps. Full points for customer service and support.Original review:I am just a common consumer so I can't really compare this to other Blu-Ray players. However, the C5500 starts up and loads fairly quickly. Setup was simple and the GUI is fairly easy. The blu-ray discs I played produced an excellent quality image on my TV. DVDs upscaling to 1080P was okay, about as good as you can hope for. Online features were sort of hit or miss. It was easy enough to setup Netflix, Pandora, YouTube, and Blockbuster. However, I could not get audio to work. Audio from Blu-ray, DVDs, and even from HD Netflix videos was fine, everything...

Fine, basic player
I've been using this for 2 weeks now, and it's my first blu-ray player (no PS3). The good stuff: Excellent look, not too loud, amazing picture and sound. Working ethernet and USB port. (I haven't had to download any firmware or code updates, but I'm sure it'll work fine.)Operations: No fan noise, no noise while playing, but during menu & loading, you hear some track-seeking which is audible at 10'... nothing offensive, though. I just noticed last night, after my 5th blu-ray a little flicker in in the bottom center of the screen during the credits of Juno... not sure if it's a bad disc or a player having a problem. It was repeatable, and the disc seemed clean. Lastly, the load time, eject time, etc seems just fine. Not instant or as fast a nice DVD player, but not noticably slow. I've heard alot about slow disc-loading, and if it is a problem on other players - it's not a problem on this one. Lastly, sometimes when you click on a menu instead of pausing, the...

Great intro to Blu-Ray
I had been waiting to jump into the HD media fray until a winner was declared and of course, that happened earlier this year. A lot of people recommended to me to get a PS3 for my blu-ray player but, for a variety of reasons, I decided I wanted a standalone player. After a lot of research, I settled on the Samsung BD-P1500. I had heard a lot of negatives about how Samsung had not been supporting their previous generation units but I was willing to get them a 30 day trial. I'm glad I did.I purchased this over memorial day weekend so I've had it over a month. In that time, I've played maybe a dozen blu-ray discs and 3 or 4 DVD's. The only problem I've experienced that is attributable to the player is several extremely brief audio dropouts while watching Ratatouille. However, I updated the player's firmware last weekend and watched several scenes that would previously cause the dropouts and observed none.I love the fact that it has an ethernet port for firmware...

Awesome, Top Notch, Set-up SUPER easy
I bought this after seeing my parents' and after watching the painful set-up of my Sony Blu-ray with built in wi-fi. NO COMPARISON. Awesome picture. Great functions. Next TV will be a Samsung to pair with this Blu-ray. My Sony is now in the bedroom hooked up to a Sony TV (settings held during move so didn't have the painful set-up again). Care nothing for 3D, so went without it as I am not a videophile and 3D gives me a headache! Even not paired with Samsung TV, still great.

easy enough
The Good: Just hooked this up. I didn't have to consult the manual- wired it to the internet, it had no problems connecting. The remote has shortcut buttons so I used those to set up the rest of the things I want like pandora and netflix. There is this thing called smarthub which is the hub for all the 'apps' and movie streaming stuff. The netflix app has a search function, which is nice. I thought the small size was a plus, not a negative like the first reviewer. Also looks aren't an issue for me- not when we have most of our appliances sitting on a too small entertainment stand with wires everywhere, lol.The Bad:It is surprisingly slow connecting to applications (surprising b/c its new). I would give it five stars if it had Amazon instant video access but it doesn't:( It's only been a couple days but every time I turn it on, it decides to download & install and update after I tell it to go to netflix or pandora. I don't know if this is b/c its new- I hope...

Not good for MLB.tv
We mainly bought this to watch MLB.tv, unfortunately this model failed miserably at that task. We tried both hard wired and wireless connections with the same result, constant breakup in the feed, freezing the screen and requiring a reboot. The blu-ray portion of this model worked fine for us. We ended up trading in for a Panasonic DMP-BDT220 which has worked very well for needs.

BUY Samsung BD-E5700 WiFi Blu-ray Disc Player (Black)

Buy Samsung Blu Ray

Why does Samsung need four models of Blu-Ray player at Best Buy that all seem to be the same. All I wanted was something that played a disc and connected to my TV. Instead, I came out with a wireless connecting Blu-Ray player with NetFlix built in (is there any electronic device left in which it is not. Then there is the rank commoditization of the electronics market that so frustrates me. I finally got a Blu-Ray player last night, really only because I bought the original, theatrical release of Star Wars, don’t own a DVD player because of iTunes... With the exception of Samsung, now in a dispute with Apple over stealing the look of Apple’s products, most of the other devices out there just seem to be flimsy. Advertising all the bells and whistles on the device may make for a plethora of advertising options, but it makes actual use of the device crap. What used to be a Cult of Apple has become a Cult of Apple Haters, with the iPad and iPhone the two singularly most popular tablet and phone devices sold. She bought a Samsung android device with a flimsy, tear off back that seems to lose its connection with the SIM card routinely. More and more it is cool to hate on Apple as more and more people actually embrace Apple, making it one of the most valuable companies on earth. There were the wi-fi devices and the ethernet devices. It is difficult to navigate, takes forever to start up because it has to display both the SAMSUNG lettering then the ATT graphic, and has so many miscellaneous options to it neither of us would ever use that cannot be hidden or moved.

Every factory 2nd is in a different condition but none of them should be in the condition yours was in. Unfortunately it is a little bit late to do anything about it now but definitely call us if you feel an item received is not in the condition... It sounds like your purchase was some time ago, we now always call to confirm the exact condition of the item to ensure the condition is satisfactory. If you have a Home Theatre PC, youd probably want to think about buying a Samsung BD-ROM drive for $80 instead, which comes with software (I found it for that on shopbot. Ive had some issues with 2nds world before, and whilst i will still buy with them, im wary of the "minor scratches". There are codes to region free the DVD side of this and many similar Samsung BluRay players readily available on the net. To be quite honest, that coffee machine should have gone back to us and swapped as all our factory 2nd products are reworked and (. ) cleaned by authorized repair centers. The machine had coffee powder still in it and the milk frother had left over dried milk that took an hour to clean out properly and the grill was slightly rusted. It looked as it it was dropped (there was a dent in the metal) and dragged across the floor with scratches all across the top.
