My son got iPod Touch 8G (4th Gen) last Christmas and he likes it overall, but there were several issues that we are not so happy about. So, I've decided to try out the Galaxy Player for my daughter. I preordered it through Amazon and, with Amazon Prime, the Galaxy was delivered on Mon, Oct. 17, which was two full days earlier than promised. :-) So, here's what our family's experience has been over last two weeks.- Galaxy 4.0 vs. 5.0: I settled on 4.0 since it is mainly used as a music player and a hand-held game machine for my daughter and, thus, the smaller size makes it more convenient for her to carry it around. I did try out Dell with a 5-inch screen at BestBuy to get the feel for larger 5" screen, and, although I liked it better for web surfing and videos, I felt the 4" would be just fine for her. Very surprising device
I've owned several mp3 players and tablets from microsoft, apple, sony, etc, but none of them attended most of my expectations.When I bought my Samsung Galaxy Player I also bought an iPod touch to compare both at the same time.The Galaxy Player was faster at web browsing, navigating throughout the device in general, etc.Even the ear-buds that come with it are good quality. Better than Apple's. Deep bass and nice distribution on the trebles and mediums. I had just bought a Klipsch s4i which is a really wonderful pair of ear-buds, but not needed after I tested this samsung one.The screen quality of the iPod touch is still superior due to the 960x640 pixel resolution, but the bigger size (5 inches) of the galaxy's screen makes it way more comfortable to your eyes (the quality is still really impressive though).The galaxy's internal stereo speakers are not like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 inches' which are wonderful, but they beat the...

Good balance between tablet and MP3 player
There are a lot of people who are comparing this to the iPod touch, and rightfully so. But I thought I'd give it a different perspective, as someone who has owned both the 4.0 and 5.0.First off, I love these Galaxy Players. They both run the Android OS 2.3.5 (Gingerbread), which is a very slick, smooth, easy-to-use interface. In my opinion, it's a little more complicated than iOS, but nothing that's overwhelming, and if you've used a touch-based OS, you can get the hang of this in no time.Both players are solid and well-built, with GPS, rear and forward-facing cameras, a microSD slot and stereo speakers. Aside from the power and volume buttons, there are no other hardware buttons on either device; the home and menu buttons are touch-sensitive. This can be a bit of a pain if you hold the device in landscape mode, though, as the buttons are sensitive and I find myself accidentally pressing them. A review based on a full year of use
Due to how long I've had this product, the review may be a bit long, but at least you get a year's worth of experience.My one year anniversary with this Mp3 player has passed (3/21/11) so I felt that I should write a review. I find that reviews made even a few weeks or months after a purchase don't give you the whole picture; after all, plenty of brands today make a lot of products that they want you to dispose of or replace after a certain amount of time. Excellent Sound
Just wanted to post that if you are in the market for a portable player, you should not pass this one up. I have the 4 GB version, and I rate the sound quality 10 out of 10 with some KOSS headphones mp3 encoded at 256. The screen is bright and clear, and while the volume has to go almost to peak to push one set of my headphones it is crystal clear when I get there, and every step before it! I am impressed by the sound quality, and highly recommend it.

Overall good player
Aesthetically, this is a really nice product from Samsung. The player is quite sleek, with nice rounded edges, a decent weight, and sharp piano black gloss finish. The sound quality is superb. I didn't get the same battery life the manufacturer did (they rate 30 hours, I probably average 20), but I would bet that's because I use the touchscreen interface more than their battery testers did.As for the touchscreen, I have to admit it's pretty nice. I prefer tactile use, so I'm more of a fan of buttons than touchscreens, but Samsung has done a nice job executing this one. There are a couple of odd quirks to the touchscreen. For example, when you "swipe" the touchscreen to advance you have to swipe from right to left, which seems counterintuitive since you are advancing the progress bar from left to right. Nice looking, sturdy, works as expected
This cable looks more substantial than the original one that came with my Samsung player. Connects to both the player and USB ports in my computer and chargers without problems. It even has one nice feature that my original cable didn't have: the triangle on the player-side connector lights up when connected to something. If I connect player to the charger, the triangle stays red as long as the player is being charged, then turns green. If I connect player to my computer, the triangle stays green when there is no data transfer, or flickers red when data is transferred. Be careful though: if you disconnect cable from the charger/computer, but leave it connected to the player, the triangle will be lit with constant green, slowly draining your player's battery...

Nothing more to ask for
It is, by far, the cheapest possible way to get this semi-proprietary cable, and it works perfectly. I honestly don't know what more one could possibly ask for.More detail about the item: on the end of the cable that connects to the device, there's a little arrow with LED light indicator that glows different colors depending on what's happening (I haven't taken note of what each color stands for, other than green for connected on USB end); the light's not bright in any way, but it's clearly visible. I don't know what the light has to do with the performance of the product itself, and I assume the light's operation is actually completely separate from the data transfer functions.It's right about the same length as the original Samsung YP-T9 cable that I lost and replaced with this cheapy.Basically, if you need this cable, I don't know why you wouldn't get this.
