Finally a playstation phone
have been playing video games since I could hold a regular NES controller in my hands. When smart phone's first came out there was no way I was going to purchase one when my psp could do everything they could, and had quality games for it. Finally I have the best of both worlds despite what another review on amazon states. The phone works great it is loud and clear. The phone doesn't come with a really great line up of games unless your a sims fan, but it comes with perfect controls to fit all the wonderful apps. Through the android market you can find a emulator for the playstation 1, GBA, SNES, N64, ATARAI, NES, GBC, and many more. Despite the playstaion network not being on this phone through the emulators it is really easy to play all your favorite games that you already own through the emulators. I have nothing negative to say about this phone. Its not the most advanced smartphone available, but its hands down the best gaming phone available. If only the playstation Vita would...

Android Gingerbread Operating System

Android Gingerbread

The Xperia PLAY runs the Android 2.3 operating system (dubbed Gingerbread)--the fastest version of Android available for smartphones yet. It features a cleaner, more refined interface with new icons, improved top notification bar, and more intuitive navigation.

Multitasking in Gingerbread allows you the ability to run more than one app at a time. If you're playing a game, you can easily switch to an incoming e-mail and then switch back to the game without losing your place. And like the previous version of Android ("Froyo"), Gingerbread provides support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1 for access to the full Web.

A new onscreen keyboard makes it easier to type thanks to additional spacing between the keys and larger font sizes. And the more you use the keyboard, the easier typing will be as the enhanced suggest feature records previous input history to make better suggestions.

The Xperia PLAY also brings one-touch access to the popular Google mobile services you use every day. It also provides easy access to both personal and corporate e-mail, calendars, and contacts supported by Exchange Server and Gmail. And through Android Market, you'll get access to thousands of useful applications, widgets, and fun games to download and install on your phone, with many more apps being added every day.

Google Integration
  • Android Market for browsing and downloading thousands of free and paid apps
  • Pre-loaded Android apps: Browser, Calculator, Calendar (Google or Corporate), Camera, Clock, Contacts, Email, Gallery, Messaging, Music, News & Weather, Phone, Settings, Video Player, Voice Dialer, Voice Search, YouTube
  • Google applications: Gmail, Google Search, Google Voice Search, Google Latitude, Google Maps, Google Places, Google Talk
  • Google Maps Navigation with spoken turn-by-turn directions showing real-time traffic and 360° views of the destination

Unlocked Phone

This unlocked cell phone can be used with a GSM network service provider. It does not come with a SIM card, and it requires that you provide a SIM card for usage with your selected service provider.

This phone can be paired with 800/850/1800/1900 MHz UMTS/HSPA 3G networks in the United States (as well as 900/2100 MHz 3G networks found around the world, including in Europe and Asia). In areas not served by a 3G network, you'll continue to receive 2G data service via the EDGE network (depending on network compatibility).

Note that the downloading of maps, games, music and videos and uploading of images and videos involves transferring large amounts of data. Your service provider may charge for the data transmission, and the availability of particular services and features may vary by carrier.

This phone comes with a full manufacturer's warranty (1-year).

Very nice, but seems to have some software issues
PROS: Beautiful phone. Impresive screen. Wi-FI, Bluetooth, GPS, Internet all work fine. Call audio excellent, good reception. A gamer must. Easy to use and get used to. Comes with a 8GB microSD.CONS: Game controler is a little small (and I don't have big hands). Also a little heavier than other phones. But the real problem is that sometimes while calling the screen goes blank, so you don't have access to any function, then things come back to normal (so i guess it must be something in the software). Also while playing, all of a sudden the game has shut down and automaticaly gone back to the home screen. Not very frequent but should be a perfect phone of this price.17/06/2011: A software update has practiaclly fixed all the bugs. No more closing programs or problems with the phone calls. Very happy indeed.

Small and efficient Symbian
This is a great phone that does most of the things that I want a phone to do: multiple email accounts, Opera Mini, Skype. There are a few things that bring this phone down from a perfect score. The call quality is somewhat poor - microphone picks up any wind and the speaker gives static. The Symbian installation seems somewhat non-complete: apps die once in a while when turning the phone sideways, if you keep the phone running more than 24 hours and try to take a photo - the phone will complain about insufficient memory, I have yet to figure out how to add Opera or Skype to the shortcuts in the top menu. However, even with these quirks this is one of the best phones I've owned (T-28 through W890i). It is the perfect size (for those of you who think the iPhones are behemoths).

3 Reasons why the xperia is better than the Iphone
Iphone 4 why pay more? After trying out various phones such as the iphone 3g, and blackberry tour I fell in love with this phone.Let me start out by saying that I liked the phone using the touchscreen so much that I felt like I didn't really need the keypad anymore which is a bummer. So yes the touch screen is very easy to use that not even the keyboard, which is the reason I bought it, is that useful. At times when you are writing a long text to write direction sure that can be very useful, but other than that the touch screen keyboard does a great job of saying your playful texts, invitations to your house party, or hellos.Reason I got this phone over the Iphone 3GNow the reason I didn't like the iphone 3g is the qwerty touchscreen. After using a blackberry there was no way the iphone was easier to touch than the blackberry, because you don't get feedback. Some people like using the iphone keypad but who knows if they have used other...

size doesn't matter ;)
Please read this first: I am based in Los Angeles, California, USA. I use this phone with AT&T, I have a family plan with unlimited text messaging and I have a data plan (although this is NOT required unlike the iPhone data plan)I love this phone. But this isn't a five star phone. So unto my complaints first:- short battery life! I have to bring the charger with me wherever I go.- easily unlocks but hard to unlock with the touch screen pattern if you don't use tactile feedback. it feels like a glitch.- no Up and Down directional arrows, only Left and Right. what's up with that?- touchscreen is activated during call, which enables the fone to "face dial" or dial with your cheeks.- not stylus compatible, or you have to touch it a certain way- Using the native messaging app, you can only MMS one picture at a timeNow that I've gotten that out of the way, here's what I love about it.- The four corner, main...

Could be better
Bought this to be my first android phone. At the time of this review, i've been using it for a little over 2 months.I did all the research and for the things i needed and my budget it was either u20i or a motorola dext/cliq. I decided for this phone because the keyboard is larger and because it's so small. The phone in itself is amusingly tiny, but a little on the heavy side for the size. It has one of the smallest screens on an android phone in the market, so beware. Personally i find the screen large enough, mostly because this phone is replacing a palm centro, that has a slightly smaller screen. The touchscreen is very bright and sensitive even for people with thick fingers. Very easy to handle. The sliding mechanism at first is sharp and responsive, but it does wear down a little after a few weeks of intense use, though it's never stopped working great. The phone comes standard with OS 1.6, but Sony Ericsson launched an update recently that...

Great solution
UPDATED July 18 2010After living with it for several weeks, I wanted to add an update. Overall, the unit still works well. The volume control still poses the issue everyone complains about but I can live with it. There is one additional design issue that rears its ugly head. The clip is a bit annoying. Depending on the type of shirt you have, the unit may need to be clipped upside down, making the headphone cord somewhat shorter. I'm not sure what shirt this unit was designed for but a U.S. mens dress shirt, the button holes are on the left (wearing the shirt) so you'll need to clip the unit upside down forcing the headphone jack to your right side, making the cord shorter. Wearing a shirt having a chest pocket can solve this but a lot of my shirts don't have a chest pocket. A symmetrical mountable clip would make this a better product OR a maybe a longer headphone cord. I still like this product a lot. I use it every time when making calls at the office and when listening to...

A great buy: handy, portable and hassle free
The MW600 is a wireless Bluetooth unit with a built in display and FM receiver. The device looks and feels very light. It has a rubberized and a glossy black design, with an integrated display and clip, which secures the unit fairly well. The display is really great; it shows caller id, battery indicator and the sound track. When playing FM stations, it displayed the name of the station and name of the song. However, because the unit is so small (about the size of a AA battery, but much lighter), it was hard for me to hold the device without pressing any of the buttons inadvertently. After some practice I got used to it. The play/pause button is normal click button, but the volume control button is unlike I have seen before. It is essentially a slider; you slide you fingers to increase or decrease the volume. It took me a while to get used to its response, but after some use, I adjusted well. Though I think, if you have large/stodgy fingers, physically handling this unit could be a...

Not Perfect but Some Cause for Celebration
NOTE: Addenda from August 15th and September 1 at the bottom of this page. The Sony Ericsson MW600s are not perfect, certainly not a panacea, but they function well in multiple roles; offering a stereo bluetooth headset that allows the option of using high-end headphones for improved sound quality and isolation. I voted for them with my own money and, so far, I would be more than happy to buy them again. Before going on to talk about the real, solid reasons for liking them, it is necessary to get other people's reasons for disliking them out of the way. The MW600 has characteristics that some who have reviewed it have called problems. The following things are true about the MW600:1. It is not made of solid titanium.2. It doesn't fit a keyboard's worth of controls onto a two-inch cylinder.3. It offers only partial compatibility with Apple products.4. It is not so simple to set up that a monkey in boxing gloves could do it...

nice hardware, shame about Sony Ericsson
This is nice hardware. It works well with AT&T in the USA. There's no Android upgrade for it. Sony Ericsson (SE) put out a press release in October say upgrades to Android 2.1 had started. If that was not a bold-faced lie, there's a sin of omission because my X10 mini is no upgrade available according to the PC software SE put out. There's no Mac equivalent of this software either :-(Upgrade is out now (Dec 24th). Had to update PC-Companion software first. First time through my internet connection died while the newer PC-Companion software downloaded Android 2.1. Inexplicably the 1.6firmware on the phone is wiped before the 2.1 version is downloaded. Thus my phone is presently bricked. After reconnecting and starting over with the non-functioning X10-mini, I am stuck on [...]. How long should I wait here SonyEricsson ? An hour? A day ?Update Jan/2011: Its upgraded now. Had to try multiple times to get the PC Companion to push Android 2.1 onto it. It...

Little piece of technology
This little machine is amazingly fast, the OS is very responsive and fluid, no lags as far as i own it, keep in mind using an app killer from the market to keep your phone running swiftly, writing is just fine with the classic alphanumeric on screen keyboard and predictive writing, the screen manages sunlight fine, and the goodies and features of android are a huge advantage of this phone. The cons are a few and that's why i rate it 4 stars, first the calling reception, it very impressive but not as good as a nokia, i live it a neighborhood with low reception and only nokias manage to have a decent signal, second this phone has an amazing music player in audio quality but no equalizer nor playlist, so it is featureless, and finally the battery will Only last a day with heavy usage, by day i mean unplugging it in the morning (5:30) and plugging it at night (24:00)The pros are so many that i really love this phone, is a minimonster capable of a lot of things, with...

Nice and delicate
The phone is nice, shick and stylish. it is very small, which is good in part since you won't feel its existence when you're not using it, but this would probably be bothering when you need to use it.The battery works for 1 day maximum (without turning the GPS on, nor wi-fi) which is very troubling.

The iPhone Alternative
Going from an old Nokia 6200 (which had great call quality and was ahead of its times) to a Moto Razr I suffered the torments of usability hell. No memory, no headphone jacks, terrible address book, substandard camera, terrible alarm clock, etc etc.The day I got my digits on the W810i (i for international, unlocked quad band) was a happy day for me. Now, one year into using it I can expertly outline the pros and cons, and authoritatively issue bouquets and brickbats.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hot -* Great battery life. I don't measure this in terms of hours and minutes but the reality of how often I had to charge. I use the phone quite a lot for listening to music especially and have never run out of charge when on the road. On days of low usage I have gone 3 days without a recharge, but topping up for 1 hour everyday is all you need. With the Razr I was constantly being stranded with...

Sony claws back the portable media market
I won't lie, I'm a Sony fan. Have been for years. When I was at school, I would take the Sony catalogue with me and look at each of the hundreds of products and admire the constantly evolving designs and technologies this company offers. Sad, I know. There are two things that made Sony what it is today; televisions and Walkmans. Their TVs were and still are today the standard by which all TVs are measured by. And Walkmans, well, they revolutionised the way people listened to music. And of course they are now good, if not the best, at many other things, from video gaming to professional video cameras used by James Cameron and Michael Mann! The company however has always annoyed a number of people by unnecessarily introducing proprietary formats. Some good, some bad, but ONE company alone will always find it hard to win public support with a format if it is not supported by other manufacturers. This was highlighted by the company's biggest EVER mistake,...

Dedicated music control buttons make for easy listening.

Transfer songs to your W810 with the included Disc2Phone software.

Two megapixels of camera goodness.
Design
The W810 follows a long tradition of beautifully designed and crafted phones from Sony Ericsson. The same candy-bar style that graced the W800 is here, as is the horizontally-oriented camera unit on the back of the phone, allowing you to hold the phone just as you would a camera when you're taking pictures. The W810's screen sports 176 x 220 pixel resolution with support for 262,000 colors. Quick access buttons below the screen make it easy to control the phone's Walkman music features, while a five-way center button controls most of the phone's menus and features.

The W810 contains 20 MB of embedded memory, but as mentioned, a Memory Stick Duo slot is provided, and it also supports Pro Duo cards, giving you storage capacities of 2 GB and beyond. Of course, there's also a port for the phone's included stereo headset. USB and infrared data ports are provided, as well, and the phone supports USB mass storage so you can simply plug the phone into your computer and drag and drop files into the phone's memory using the included Disc2Phone PC application. To top it all off, the W810's camera flash can double as a flashlight.

Calling Features
The W810's phone book can hold up to 1000 contacts with multiple entries per contact. A call list remembers your most recent missed, received and dialed calls. The phone's voice activated dialing makes calling your contacts as easy as saying their names, while the built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. Polyphonic ringtones are included and you can also use MP3 and AAC music files as ringtones. A cool application called Music DJ even lets you mix your own ringtones. Meanwhile, picture caller ID lets you assign a photo to specific callers. Similarly, a ringer ID lets you assign ringtones to callers. For those times you want to keep things discreet, there's a vibrate ringer mode. And because the W810 is Bluetooth-enabled, you can use a variety of headsets and handsfree kits for total wireless freedom when you're on the go.

Messaging, Internet, and Tools
If you're looking for a mobile productivity partner, the W810 has you covered. Support is built in for sending and receiving pictures, text, graphics, and sound via MMS messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in still and video camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging possibilities. The phone also ships with a built-in email client with support for POP3, IMAP4 and SMTP protocols, while the included Access NetFront Web Browser allows you to surf full HTML web sites. T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

Getting on the Internet is easy with the W810, as it supports the GPRS protocol, as well as the high speed EDGE data protocol. When used with your carrier data plan and the phone's Bluetooth or USB data capability, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the W810, including a voice memo recorder, a to-do list, a calculator, a calendar and an alarm clock. The phone also supports the SyncML PC synchronization standard, which lets you synchronize your PC-based calendar, contacts, notes and tasks with your W810.

Imaging and Entertainment
The W810 is a Walkman phone, and that means it offers a great mobile music experience. Load up your favorite songs in MP3 or AAC format on a memory card and listen to your heart's content. The user-friendly music player application also includes a "Music Mode" that shuts down the phone functions so you can listen on an airplane or anytime you don't want to accept calls. Meanwhile, Digital Mega Bass and stereo widening combine to enhance your listening experience. There's even an FM radio for catching the big game or your favorite stations. The radio also supports reception of digital song information from radio stations.

And don't forget about that powerful 2-megapixel camera, which features something most camera phones lack -- autofocus. Finally, you can get consistently great shots from any distance, shots that rival the quality of a dedicated digital camera. The camera also features an LED flash and a 4x digital zoom, and it can capture video, as well. Dedicated controls on the side of the unit will make you forget you're holding a phone in your hand.

And what about gaming? This phone is definitely geared for the mobile fun fanatic, as it supports widescreen and 3D games. The W810 comes preloaded with several games and more are downloadable from Sony Ericsson.

My First Sony Ericsson, A review from a Nokia Fanboy
My previous phone was a Nokia 6600. It had a slow interface for 2006 and come on, I wanted to try somethingn new.Initially, I had planned on exploring my chances of buying a Treo but due to the rates, I gave up my plan. Without much pondering, I went and purchased a Sony Ericsson W810i. Now, it's been four weeks. Let me just give you a brief run thru of features, pros and cons.Features1. This phone is an mp3 player. This phone is a torch/semi flash light(with an SOS signal that can be configured). This phone has flash capability and further doubles up into a digital camera. Overall, it saves a lot of space to use this phone instead of just going out with a standalone mp3 player or/and a digital camera2. The interface is fast. It takes around 8 seconds to get an auto focus and click a picture using the camera. I'll try and explain - to come out of the screensaver you need half a second, to activate camera using the shortcut it takes 3 seconds, a...
